HARRISBURG — A summer-long discussion of Pennsylvania’s highway, bridge and mass transit needs resumed Monday, Aug. 23, with an unusual joint meeting in which House and Senate members grilled the state transportation secretary about a proposal to raise $1 billion annually in new funding.

The United Way of the Virginia Peninsula raised $6,295,537 in 2009, including $1,917,233 from the local combined federal campaign.

Pulaski County law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into a weekend incident concerning video and audio discs that were hand-delivered to all but one of the eight Pulaski County Special School District board members. The video allegedly shows board member Gwen Williams of McAlmont in an apparent exchange of money with a concrete vendor.
